So we have been talking about menopause in general and some symptoms in particular and now I thought we would move on to mention some natural ways in relieving these symptoms. Well first of all, herbs have been used throughout the ages by women from all corners of the world to make this transition stage a little bit easier and more comfortable. In particular, a lot of experience and knowledge come from Chinese Medicine.

Here are a few herbs know to do good in Menopause

10 February, 2010

I’ve recently come over a herbal remedy that’s supposed to be really good. It´s all natural pure ingredients like soy and Black Cohosh( like mentioned above) and vitamine E. It’s had quite a few good testimonials out there. It’s called Menozac and it’s supposed to be really effective relieving symptoms like the hot flashes, the anxiety, the depression and mood swings etc. I found a really good offer as well. Buy three bottles, get two for free. Check it out here.

The main ingredient is soy, which has appearently been used in Asian medicine ( and cooking) for centuries. It’s supposed to be really good, not only working on the hormonal changes with phytoestrogens, but also lowering our cholesterol level.

8 February, 2010

It´s quite typical of this stage of life, that some psychological factors enhance mood changes. Apart from the obvious hormonal changes that take place in the body, well, women are at this stage often faced with additional stressfactors, such as dealing with teenage children or the need to provide special care to their elderly parentes. And don´t forget the feelings of loss, such as saying goodbye to the ability of having children and an eldering body.

For all these reasons, it is relatively common (30%)  depression climacteric women, with or without anxiety, and this is manifested in insecurity, fear, anger, sadness, apprehension or even exaggerated health concerns. depression

So how can we handle this stage of our lives in teh emotional aspect?  Well, talk to your family and friends about how you are feeling and they will probably give you support. Don´t stress, do some yoga, get your beauty sleep, don´t multitask. Spend some relaxed time with your family. Go on a retreat for the weekend if you have the oportunity. Don’t take yourself so seriously, have a laugh, dance, sing and travel like you used to do and make sure you make these years worth remembering!

One of the symptoms in menopause is Osteoporosis. The hormonal changes decreases your calcium absorbation and your bones can go more fragile. The experts reckons that 1 in 5 women in the US suffers from Osteoporosis, and that makes it and important problem. It can produce bone fractures with very little or no pressure which can reduce our life quality and make even the most simple daily activities difficult..

So what can we do about it? Is there anyway we can prevent it? Well , if you are in the risk zone ( > 50Y/o, caucasian, history of smoking or alcohol abuse, family history of osteoporosis, underweight) here are some suggestions ( always check with your doc first):

- assure your calcium and phosphorus intake: eggs, milk, cheese, salmon, green leafy veggies, tofu…Supplements can be wise in some cases.

- Stop smoking at once!!

- Do some exercise. This makes your bones stronger but be careful, no falling over!!

So what can we do to live this phase of our lives more smoothly? Well, it seems most experts think that a healthy lifestyle is the best gift we can give to ourselves. This generally translates into:

- Eating healthy food: a good cardiovascular diet reducing cholesterol like butter, red meat, cream and processed food.. No more transfats! And eat at least 5 rations a day of veggies and fruits. Soy seems to a be a good alternative to fatty dairy products and provides us the important calcium that we need.

- Regular exercise.. Walking with a friend, go swimming, dancing or just cutting the lawn. But don´t overdo it, your body isnt perhaps what it used to be, although our minds defenetly still are !

- Go on regular check-ups

- Avoid smoking and drinking.

- Take things easy. Don´t stress. Do some yoga, mediate or take a time out. Things don´t have to be perfect always.

- Spend quality time with your family and friends.

So basically: live life and love it and you will make this a very cheerful phase of your life!

Menopause Symptoms

What about them? Well some of us hardly notice anything, just a few moodswings and then, yes, no more painful periods, PMS or worries about pregnancy.. But these women seems to be the lucky few.. Many of us however have quite a hard time; hot flashes, dry skin, insomnia, anxiety, weight gain, urinary disorders, and not to mention changes in our sex-life… No motivation, vaginal dryness etc..

So what are we supposed to do about it? Well, there is this quite known thing called HRT ( hormonal replacement therapy) and then there are loads of herbal stuff out there. But how to find the right thing for you, and who can we actually trust?

Im not doctor, but well, to me it seems pretty simple… Menopause is a natural phase of life for every woman on the planet , so the remedy should be something natural! hotflashes

Menopause: make it an active and cheerful stage of your life!

8 February, 2010

menopauseThis blog is about the dreaded stage of women´s life called Menopause . There is a great need to informe, educate and give answers to women experiencing or dreading menopause right now and I here will post a  few suggestions that I hope are of interest and help…

Menopause was actually until quite recently considered a mysterious phase of a woman´s life, and noone knew much about it. TIt wasn´t until we began to gain some insight into women’s complex hormonal systems that we actually started to talk about menopause as a natural lifephase concerning all women, not just the common thoughts of woman becoming “old and mad” Can you believe that!

Anyway, as the average life expectancy for women in most countries has increased, simultaneously so has interest in menopause, its symptoms and it’s remedies. What is more,  almost 95 % of all women in the western world experience their 50th birthday, so that makes a lot of us and we need to be considered!
